Then two wings simply stop, closed off with half-timbered gables — carpentry where masonry should be, a temporary fix that has now been temporary for more than four hundred years. Jacob Seefeld had meant to raise four wings around a closed courtyard. He died in 1599, the year the work began, and the fourth wing was never built.
