When the Sjellebro stone was found in 1951, near the old inn at Sjellebro where the road crosses the Alling Å, it was lying carved side down in the ground. Turned over, it showed a man's head cut into grey granite: a mouth, a beard worked into braids, and round eyes that Danish descriptions call gloende - glowing, or staring. The block stands about 1.7 metres high and roughly a metre wide, and it was almost certainly painted once, which means the version visitors see today is the ghost of something far louder. What it meant is a genuinely open question. What it was for is a little easier to guess, because of where it stood.
