He destroyed the port, and then he took the merchants with him. The Royal Frankish Annals record the transaction in a few dry clauses: Godfred had been drawing handsome tribute from the emporium of Reric, and in that year he wrecked it and carried its traders north to Hedeby, an emporium closer to Denmark. A raid takes cargo. This took the people who moved the cargo, and with them a trade route.]]></description>
