Nørre Vosborg: Introduction

Nørre Vosborg began around 1299 as Osborg, or Fosborg, a fortified seat at the mouth of the Storå near Nissum Fjord in the reign of Erik Menved — good ground for controlling a river mouth and terrible ground for staying dry. A storm surge, most likely in 1593, destroyed it. Whoever rebuilt did not rebuild on the same spot. They moved inland, out of the water's reach, and started again. Everything you see today stands on that second decision: four wings raised across four centuries by four families with four entirely different ideas about what a manor house should look like, arranged around a single courtyard in the flat green country west of Holstebro.
