In 1896 an amateur archaeologist named Augusta Zangenberg agreed to buy a sandy hill above the Limfjord for 200 kroner. She had guessed what was under it. Before the sale could close, digs carried out under her direction turned up so many graves that the owner reconsidered and asked for 2,000 instead — ten times the price. The deal collapsed. Zangenberg had been right about the hill and wrong about how cheaply anyone would ever part with it once they knew.
