Leave Lemvig by the hairpin turn on Vesterbjerg and you can walk out of the solar system in an afternoon. Denmark's first planet path was laid out here in 1987 at a scale of one to a billion, which shrinks the Earth to a bead about a centimetre across and stretches the run out to Neptune into four and a half kilometres of coastal walking, finishing at the bathing beach on Gjeller Odde. It is a very Lemvig kind of monument: modest, outdoors, and quietly ambitious. The town itself sits in a hollow at the innermost end of a bay, hemmed in by hills, ten kilometres from a sea it could not reach for most of its history.
