Photo credit Frmir, CC BY 3.0. She is very thin, cast in bronze, and standing on a small cart, and the people of Holstebro call her Maren o æ woun — Maren on the wagon, in the West Jutlandic dialect. She is also an Alberto Giacometti, bought by Holstebro Municipality in 1966 and set down in the open near the old town hall, where anyone crossing the square has to walk past her. She was the first sculpture the municipality ever purchased. She was not the last, and the purchase was not a whim. Holstebro had decided to become a cultural town, and it went about it the way a council goes about a road scheme.
