Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel was queen consort of Denmark and Norway, married to Christian V, and she is the reason the estate stopped being called Hundslund and became Dronninglund — dronning for queen, lund for grove. The queen's grove. She never lived there in any settled way; it was property, one item in the portfolio a consort accumulated. But the name stuck to the house, and the house then gave its name to the town that grew up around it, so that today several thousand people live in a place named after a seventeenth-century German princess's real-estate purchase.]]></description>
